Ice fishing up the hill at Prosser Lake. Donner State Park, which is just a mile and a half from us at the end of the lake, has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. As our cabin has direct access to the lake; in summer, fish or swim off the dock in front of us, enjoy the many water sports possible on the lake, or take a 20 minute ride over to North Tahoe to enjoy the 'big lake' on the mountain. There are 7 golf courses within 15-18 minute drive, historic Truckee and the Transcontinental Railroad to explore. It has one full bathroom with a separate door to the toilet and an extra curtain to separate the shower area for even more privacy. The kitchen is fully stocked, including dishes, silverware, pots/pans and dishwasher. There is a washer and dryer in the garage. We supply everything you'd expect - fresh linens and towels, toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, bar soap, dishwasher soap, laundry soap. The home was built in 2004 and up until now, was only used by family, so it's in great condition. At the beginning of the driveway is the "main" home where we live. A newer wonderful pub and bar a few blocks down the road on the corner of the lakes west end with outside dining. A public boat launch is just 500 feet east of us. Six great early ski resorts including Sugar Bowl just 4 minutes on scenic historic Hwy 40. Downtown Truckee, is a 6 minute drive along the lake. In town you'll find large chain stores for grocery, pharmacy, hardware & firewood, gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. HISTORIC OLD TOWN TRUCKEE: is a min further where you'll find quaint little shops and restaurants with wooden boardwalks of the old west from "a time gone by" and also a great visitor center at the train station with plenty of brochures and info on things to do and see in the entire region. The train passes through twice a day for travelers getting on and off in Truckee. One of our favorite restaurants is "Bar of America" for food and drinks and there's a wine bar across the street. SPRING and FALL is when it quiets down on the lake. The large crowds have gone home and you have the lake, pretty much to yourselves. It’s a wonderful time to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet serenity........lakeside! There's really no way to describe it, you just have to experience it for yourselves. There are three other large and three other small ski resorts close by too. The large; Squaw Valley USA, North Star, Alpine Meadows and some smaller ones; Donner Ski Ranch, Boreal Ridge (offers night skiing too), Soda Springs and Tahoe Donner has both downhill and cross country skiing. Lots of sledding spots on the surrounding hills. And there's an ice skating rink and Kid Zone in town too. WINTER: views here are quite exquisite from our townhouse windows in this "winter wonderland". Snow on the surrounding mountains and the vista across the chilly lake.
